What is this Indicator?
This indicator shows the percentage of households owning one or more vehicles.

Why this is important: Vehicle ownership is directly related to personal driving which contributes to air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. Air pollutants are known factors in respiratory disease and chronic illnesses such as asthma, as well as cardiovascular disease and mortality. In addition, a higher level of personal vehicle driving is associated with increased traffic accidents and fatalities.

Technical note: This distribution is based on the average value from the state of California.
